Giving advice to people living with a rare disease has become far too casual.

Please do not ask me if I have tried going vegan, gluten free, drinking celery juice, or eating grass. Food does not cure cancer. A healthy lifestyle absolutely matters. Good nutrition matters. Exercise matters. Sleep matters. Reducing processed foods matters. Of course it all contributes to overall health.

But I am growing tired of influencers wanting to become scientists after graduating from the University of TikTok.

The rhetoric is dangerous.

The reality is that many people who chose alternative cancer treatments instead of evidence based medicine are no longer here to tell you it did not work. Meanwhile, a tiny percentage survive by chance and suddenly become “proof” that science is a conspiracy. They dismiss doctors, research, imaging, medication, surgery, and decades of medical advancement while spreading misinformation to vulnerable people who are desperate for hope.

Yes, cancer is on the rise. But no, it is not because “Big Pharma wants us sick.”

Just over 100 years ago, global life expectancy was around 32 years. Today it is over 72.

And no, our ancestors did not magically live longer because they drank raw milk and ate organic vegetables.

Medicine has transformed human survival.

Just twenty years ago, surgeons often had to open patients up to understand what was happening internally before deciding how to operate. Today we have MRIs, CT scans, contrast imaging, genetic testing, robotic surgery, and early detection tools that allow doctors to see disease with incredible precision before symptoms even appear.

Science is the reason many of us are still alive.

I am not denying that modern life has problems. Plastics, ultra processed foods, food colorings, pollution, stress, and sedentary lifestyles all impact health. We absolutely need healthier habits and we should reject unnecessary synthetic garbage in our food systems.

But enough with the war on science.

Doctors, researchers, imaging specialists, surgeons, and medical innovation are improving and extending human life every single day. They are not the enemy.

So please, stop listening to TikTok influencers pretending to be oncologists.
